Five Star Food Hygiene Rated
Our Merton Mencap Café was inspected by Merton’s Environmental and Regeneration department and was awarded a food hygiene rating of five stars – the maximum possible - reflecting our ‘EXCELLENT’ practice.
Merton Mencap Café
Our Merton Mencap Café is open to the public each Monday from 10am to 2pm at the Holy Trinity Church, The Broadway, Wimbledon. The Café offers a range of healthy home-made hot and cold dishes, drinks and light snacks.
This project provides the opportunity for people to learn skills which help them throughout their life. Food preparation, the waiting service and till operation are all delivered by people with a learning disability.
In November 2009, the Merton Mencap Café was audited against the Food Hygiene Star Rating system, commonly known as "scores on the doors", which is run in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency.
The scheme provides information to the public about hygiene standards in food businesses, using a star rating system from 0 to 5 stars. Following their inspection by LBM environmental health, our café scored the highest 5 stars.
This status reflects the hard work by the café team, implementing new procedures and training during summer 2009 and maintaining best practice and high standards.
