Carers Week is an annual campaign raising awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges that many unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
The campaign also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.
The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.
At Merton Mencap, we know that carers of people with learning disabilities and/or autism are very often life-long carers. Many carers have seen an increase in their caring since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. We believe carers should receive the support they need to help them feel healthy, to have a life of their own, and to have a voice about local support for them and the person they care for.
