Refreshments and a delicious lunch will be served after the main meeting by our café team, Café Fantastic. We shall also announce the winner of our Volunteer of the Year 2026!

We are delighted that our guest speaker at this event will be Sir Mark Lowcock.  Mark has been Chair of the St Georges, Epsom and St Helier hospital group (gesh) since April 2025.  Earlier in his career he was a civil servant, latterly as Permanent Secretary of the Department for International Development. He was then head of humanitarian affairs at the United Nations, travelling widely but based in New York. He has spent much of his career dealing with global health issues. 

In addition to his gesh role, Mark is currently President of the Chartered Institute for Public Finance and Accountancy, and on the Boards of the University of London, and City and St Georges University.  Mark is also Vice Chair of the Howard Partnership Trust, which runs 14 schools in Surrey, including three schools for children with learning disabilities.

We are holding a wonderful Charity Auction Night on Thursday 20 March from 6.30pm at The Ginger Italian Joes Restaurant (6 Green Wrythe Lane, Carshalton, SM5 2DW). 

Our Charity Auction Night is a special fundraising event where people bid for ‘Lots’ and the person making the highest bid gets the item. The Lots have been donated to the charity for free and all proceeds from the auction go to Merton Mencap.

It is a ticket-only event – tickets are £40 per person for which a delicious 3 course meal is provided. For each ticket sold, the restaurant is kindly donating £5 to Merton Mencap. Cash and card payment for this event will be collected upon arrival.

Carers First and Merton Mencap are very pleased to announce their collaboration to support carers in the London Borough of Merton.

Carers First has supported carers across many parts of the UK for over 30 years and is now launching its services to help young carers and family carers of adults in Merton. Merton Mencap has supported children and adults with a learning disability and/or autism and their families in Merton for over 60 years.

The two charities are working in partnership to provide a dedicated carers assessment and wellbeing assessment service to carers of adults with a learning disability and/or autism in Merton. Their collaboration will bring a new joined-up offer to local carers in which support from both organisations will be promoted to carers in continuous, seamless way.

Are you a person with a learning disability/autism or a carer? Join us for a special FREE cooking tutorial in which you will learn to prepare and cook a healthy diabetes-friendly dish! Ingredients provided – you will take the dish you’ve cooked home with you!

We are collaborating with Morden Primary Care Network and One You Merton to provide the opportunity for a person with a learning disability/autism and their carer to prepare a healthy, diabetes-friendly meal together.

The sessions will be run by our Merton Mencap team and will also be attended by GPs from Morden Primary Care Network.
