Our Community Café is open to the public each Monday and Wednesday from 10am to 2pm at the Holy Trinity Church, The Broadway, Wimbledon, and offers a range of healthy home-made hot and cold dishes. Join us for lunch or drop in for coffee!
Our Community café provides vocational and practical training, and the opportunity for adults with a learning disability and/or autism to learn skills which will also help them throughout their life.

During this period of hot weather, here is some information to help you and your families keep cool.

Tips for coping in hot weather
- look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated – older people, those with underlying health conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk
- stay cool indoors – many of us will need to stay safe at home this summer so know how to keep your home cool
- close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors
- if going outdoors, use cool spaces considerately, keep your distance in line with social distancing guidelines
- follow coronavirus social distancing guidance and wash your hands regularly
- drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
- never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
- try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm
- walk in the shade, apply sunscreen regularly and wear a wide brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat
- avoid exercising in the hottest parts of the day
- make sure you take water with you, if you are travelling
- if you are going into open water to cool down, take care and follow local safety advice
- Remember that while coronavirus restrictions are in place, you will need to follow government guidance to use public spaces safely
We are pleased to announce our Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 12 July at 11am on Zoom.
For people without internet access, we are hosting the AGM at our offices at the Chaucer Centre.
We are pleased that our guests speakers will be from our Community Café team.

Trustees Annual Report & Accounts 2022
We shall be presenting our Trustees Annual Report & Accounts 2022 for approval at our AGM.

Our Great Merton Mencap Art Competition is now live!
Our Great Merton Mencap Art Competition 2022 is an accessible art competition for everyone. Judging will be based on interpretation, originality and fun. Anyone can win!
There are 4 competition categories:
- Children with a learning disability and/or autism aged 0-12
- Young people with a learning disability and/or autism aged 13-18
- Adults with a learning disability and/or autism aged 18+
- Family carer of a person with learning disability and/or autism (eg sibling, parent, grandparent)
Prizes
The winners, 2nd places and 3rd places in each category will each receive £25 and a certificate, presented to them by our competition sponsors, UC Build and Safestore, and have their artwork displayed publicly and on the Merton Mencap web site and social media. The winner’s artwork in each category will be printed into greetings cards which are sold to the public to raise funds for Merton Mencap.
Theme
The theme for each category is ‘something that inspires me or something I enjoy’, for example:
- a favourite hobby, a pet, something in nature, best friend, favourite food
- a pretty design or something colourful, or anything else!
Any materials may be used, eg pencils, paints, glitter, beads, collages, prints, digital illustrations, photography, three dimensional pieces (eg clay) submitted as a photograph.
